Calpe is a privileged location where nature lovers can enjoy extraordinary scenery and beautiful horizons.
There are various hiking routes, beginning in the town centre or in the nearby mountain-sides, allowing for many different options depending on your personal preferences: flora and wildlife, ancient buildings, Roman ruins, etc.
The most well known route begins at the foot of the Rock of Ifach, the symbol of the Costa Blanca. This rock juts out of the sea and offers incredible views from its summit which is 332 metres above sea-level. The rock offers several different routes which vary in difficulty. The rock of Ifach is also home to the Nature Museum, where visitors can find out all about the rock’s history. This is also the perfect resting point before commencing the ascent to the summit.
Another of the most popular routes will take you along the promenade of the Arenal-Bol Beach. Here history lovers can discover the Queen’s Baths and the buried ruins of an ancient Roman civilization. The Queen’s Baths gained their name through popular belief that they were used by a Muslim queen. In truth these ruins are actually part of a Roman fish-farm.
It is also possible to follow a route which will lead you around the Salt Flats (also declared a nature park) allowing visitors to bear witness to the varied flora and wildlife. During certain times of year it is possible to view large numbers of flamencos that migrate to the salt flats.
All this and much more can be enjoyed in Calpe and neighbouring areas. For further information ask at our hotel’s reception.
